This article could use a picture gallery as there are Cherokee names for several oak species. They can be found in the online dictionary, for example. Biosthmors (talk) 18:44, 17 ᏕᎭᎷᏱ 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Complete. However, it appears multiple sources support ᏧᏍᎦ as meaning oak, but the Cherokee Nation poster says it means white oak. It also says oak means what other sources seem to agree means water oak. I wonder if some oak entries on the poster need to be modified. Biosthmors (talk) 01:35, 21 ᏕᎭᎷᏱ 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Maybe they are dialectual differences? --Ooswesthoesbes (talk) 10:07, 21 ᏕᎭᎷᏱ 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Maybe, I just haven't found any supporting evidence for that yet. The Cherokee Nation Dikaneisdi (Word List), Noquisis Word List, and Cherokee English Dictionary (in an example sentence) all differ from the Cherokee Nation poster and state the word for oak is is ᏧᏍᎦ. And according to the Consortium Word List (which should be comprehensive) and the Raven Rock Dictionary (which is the Eastern dialect), ᏙᎳᏥ is the word for water oak. Because it looks suspicious, I went ahead and emailed and asked about this. The other day I also emailed because I saw that the Consortium Word List gave a word for sea otter that other sources defined as otter. Since the sea otter is a species on the Pacific Coast, I emailed and asked about this, and they confirmed that the word should instead refer to the common otter and will be modified. So that was kinda interesting. Apparently, I helped identify an error on the Consortium Word List. Maybe others had noticed it already and it was going to be modified already, though.
